SEVEN WISE ONES

Winter beckons with its offerings
Of silence, stillness, reflection, contemplation

At the Temple Gate, I stand, I wait, I listen
I pray to all the deities and all the wise ones
I pray to the All-Loving Being
Who endows all beings with consciousness

Teach me, accept me, love me

Jesus appears and says to me
“So I say to you, ask and it will be given to you;
Search and you will find;
Knock, and the door will be opened for you.”
And then he says: “Blessed are the pure in heart
For they shall see God.”
—And Jesus walks into my body

Sri Sarada Devi appears and says to me
“I tell you one thing. If you want peace, do not find fault with others.
Rather see your own faults.
Learn to make the whole world your own.
No one is a stranger, my child; the whole world is your own.”
—And Sri Sarada Devi, the Holy Mother walks into my body

The Buddha appears He speaks to me about the Eight Realizations of Great Beings
“The eighth realization being that we do not practice
For our individual enlightenment alone
But devote our whole being to guiding all others to the gates of enlightenment.”
—And then the Buddha walks into my body

Lao Tsu appears and says to me
“When there is no desire,
All things are at peace”
And then he says: “The Tao is nowhere to be found
And yet it nourishes and completes all things.”
—And Lao Tsu walks into my body

Chief Dan George appears and says to me
“Love is something you and I must have.
We must have it because our spirit feeds upon it.
We must have it because without it we become weak and faint.
Without love our self-esteem weakens.
Without it our courage fails.
Without love we can no longer look out confidently at the world.”
—And Chief Dan George walks into my body

Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi appears and says to me
“Ultimately, our questions must emerge not from mental categories
But from deep within the heart.
They must rise to the surface of our beings as we sit in silence
So that they are not just the old questions
Which we raise whenever we have nothing else to talk about
Or just for the sake of argument.
They need to be the questions which make a difference in our lives.”
—And Reb Zalman walks into my body

Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan appears and says to me
“Dive deeply into the miracle of life
And let the tips of your wings be burnt by the flame
Let your feet be lacerated by the thorns
Let your heart be stirred by human emotion
And let your soul be lifted beyond the earth.”
— And Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan walks into my body

The All-Loving Being
Who endows all beings with consciousness
Whispers in my heart
Be assured — you are eternally held in the arms of the Beloved

And all boundaries melt away, all fragmentation dissolves

There remains only One
Only I remain
