Times of challenge can send us seeking understanding, meaning, and consolation.  The coronavirus pandemic is propelling people to search for these in many directions, and one of the directions in which some look is poetry.  Poetry can offer ideas, language, and images that can be helpful in processing and coming to terms with a distressing or unfamiliar event.  It can provide ways of pressing forward our thinking and feeling about what is taking place, and ways of bringing head and heart into conversation.   Star of the Sea Centre for Spiritual Living and Practice will be hosting a virtual poetry circle, Poetry in a Time of Trial.  It will bring together people interested in sharing and exploring what poetry may have to say in this moment.  Participants will have the opportunity to listen to, respond to, and discuss poems that relate, directly or indirectly, to the current pandemic.  Anyone may bring a poem that they would like to share with the group.  People are also welcome to just listen to poems brought by others and to share their responses.   Poetry in a Time of Trial will take place on Tuesday, April 28, from 7:00-8:30 p.m.  It will be facilitated by Salt Spring poet Brian Day.

The event will take place on Zoom.  If you are unfamiliar with Zoom, a brief explanation will be provided with your invitation.  If you would like to take part, register at Register.  The confirmation of your registration will provide details on Zoom.   A day or two before the event you will receive the url code to connect.

We look forward to an evening of poetic offerings that illuminate our way in this challenging time.
